The Fantastic Four Song Circle was Buffalo, NY's premier singer-songwriter showcase at Nietzsche's (248 Allen St.) from August 2005 - August 2009 and was hosted by Rob Falgiano. I was a monthly event, usually on a Wednesday night in the middle of the month, from 8pm-midnight. More than 50 of Buffalo's finest songwriters (and some regional artists) shared their music in an acoustic format. The players sat together in a half-circle, and took turns performing original songs, with spontaneous vocal harmonies, percussion, and lead playing by the other participants. The lineup of the show varied each month, ensuring a unique chemistry to each performance. The musicians involved loved it too, because they got to be both artist and audience. There was a vibe of support and spotlight on the emotional craft of songwriting. We also told a lot of bad jokes and occasionally made up a song on the spot together. Fantastic Four Song Circle participants included: Dee Adams, Noa Bursie, Scott Celani, Sheila Connors, Maria Sebastian, Bob Farmer, Tom Stahl, Tina Marie Williams, Tom Fenton, Kerilea Butler, Alex Lynne, Jason Jurewicz (aka The Highway Beautiful), Brad Beikirch and Jessica Kern (aka Moodswing), Geno McManus, Robert Joseph, Madeleine White, Dave Adams, Rose Bond, JoAnn Vaccaro (Rochester), Alan Whitney, Katherine Joyce, Jacinta Whitcome, Mike Criscione, Bernice Marie, Meghan Callahan, Jeramy Carroll, Davey O., Edie Allen, Leroy Townes, Gretchen Schulz, Jim Whitford, Greg Klyma, Andrew Marks (Rochester), Kari Czubinski, Guillermo Izquierdo, Bob Hanley, Jim Iarocci, Jana Losey (Corning, NY), Steve Roth and Meredith Brown (aka The Hangman's Beautiful Daughter), Ron Freeman (Columbus, OH), and Mary Simon (Hamilton, ON). |
