EPISODE 2: "SCOTT THOMPSON GOT ME HIGH," starring rob f.
 November 16, 2001. Buffalo, NY.

This is Scott Thompson from the Canadian sketch-comedy TV show "Kids In the Hall." The Kids were big heroes of mine in high school. Their irreverent, bizarre, fearless comedy was inspirational. In the course of my day job (which I don't feel like discussing) I am sometimes able to meet celebrities when they come to Buffalo to perform.

Scott Thompson came to Buffalo to do his one-man show and yours truly was his chauffeur for 4 days. It was such a thrill to hang out with him. Scott is a really really nice guy - very funny in 'real life' and humble and just generally cool.

I probably picked him up and dropped him off about a dozen times, so I'd get to spend about 15 minutes with him each trip.

Scott told me all sorts of interesting little things - about a dream he had a year ago in which an airplane crashes into a city block (yes, scary); and about how he was offered the role of the ship's doctor on the new Star Trek show ('Enterprise') but turned it down because he would have had to wear a ton of facial prosthetics and was warned by previous Star Trek regulars that it will ruin your skin.

He told me about how the Kids in the Hall were together for 4 full years in Toronto performing at the Rivoli before they got picked up by Canadian TV. Scott never expected to be famous. He said his night job was working as a security guard.

He also told me about how he was terrorized last year after his ex-boyfriend was involved in the creation of a film documentary about Saddam Hussein. Some unknown thugs filled two garbage cans in front of Scott's L.A. home with gasoline and lit them on fire. It completely torched his lawn. Then they threw buckets of blood-red paint all over his home so it looked like blood streaming down. They put a note under the door threatening Scott's boyfriend to abandon his project or he would be killed. Needless to say, Scott is okay. I think he said his boyfriend left the country though. Crazy.

This is me with Scott Thompson but with his eyes closed.

This is Scott holding his eyes open for the follow up shot.

Scott's show was completely raunchy and definitely hysterical. I got my mom and brother tickets and we all sat together and laughed our asses off.

The next morning I picked up Scott at the hotel to take him to the airport for his flight back to L.A. He told me about his night out after the performance. Scott hung out with his 2 cousins who live in Buffalo; they went to a bar called Shannon's Pub.

Much to Scott's suprise he was recognized by a group of six construction workers with southern accents who were getting drunk and a bit rowdy. These hicks decided to intimidate Scott and his cousins by making fun of his not only being gay, but being Canadian! (Scott is open about his homosexuality.) The rednecks sat right behind Scott and were making cracks like - 'so you're a faggot, eh?!' Scott said it was a little scary there for a bit since the guys were so trashed. But eventually the bartenders booted the thugs. Scott said he's been mocked many times before for being gay, but never for being both gay and Canadian! He said he'd definitely work that into his act. I felt embarrassed that this happened to him in my hometown, but I asked him to please make sure he mentioned that these guys were southern and NOT from Buffalo.

Well anyway, these are the very SPECIAL cookies Scott gave me before he got on the plane. For certain reasons he did not want to have these with him as he passed through customs.

Two days later Christa and I ate these as a joke, but pretty soon we were laughing for a whole different reason.

I never really knew cookies could help you get to the moon.

Scott Thompson got me high!
