Rob opens for Ingrid Michaelson a second time
June 18, 2010

Rob was a last minute, solo-acoustic addition to this week’s Thursday in the Square in downtown Buffalo.  Crowd estimate was in the 10,000 range.

"After a set by local singer/ songwriter Rob Falgiano, whose remarkable vocal range turned some heads, the crowd was treated to the mesmerizing country stylings of A. A. Bondy."

“Local artist Rob Falgiano took to the stage first. He was in the unenviable position of doing solo acoustic before the growing mass of people in Lafayette Square. In a way, he was both Simon and Garfunkel. His stature and guitar skills invoked the former while his vocals recalled the latter.”

Watching the Watchers
June 2, 2010

Rob debuted his new music video for “Hello Radio” at his May 8th CD release show.  But this time video director Tom McDade turned the camera on the audience as they watched the video between sets on the Sportsmen’s Tavern’s large plasma TV.

Rob’s first ever music video – for “Hello Radio”
June 2, 2010

Check out the newly-posted high res version here.

This video was shot primarily in the Allentown area of downtown Buffalo, NY, at the height of winter.  Instead of running from Buffalo’s snowy reputation, Rob wanted to capture the neighborhood in white.  The lipsynch clips were done in single-digit January temperatures (why did we think that was a good weekend to work on it?) and Rob would wait for new snowfall to run out with his flipcam to get more neighborhood shots.   In an effort to make the video more “guerilla style” we decided not to do the conventional multi-camera staged shoot in favor of a handheld video style with individual ‘amateur’ camera people.   This worked a lot better for Rob since he gets all self-conscious just thinking about having a camera in his face.  But doing it with a single camera person at a time made it more intimate and comfortable.  And fun.  5 flipcams were purchased and distributed to friends and relatives to take shots downtown and any other outdoor stuff they found interesting.  Director Tom McDade pooled the footage with his own and did the assembly and additional computer graphics in stages, working closely with Rob until its debut at the CD release show.

Artvoice’s  Peter Vullo says Rob’s “use of digital blips and beats as flourishes sound something like Elvis Costello singing with the Postal Service.”
